Yesterday, for the first time this year, I felt spring. The crisp fresh air against my skin, the melodic sounds of birds chirping, and the earthy fragrance of freshly mowed grass. Without hesitation I opened my computer, hopped on Pinterest, and searched up “Spring 2022 Fashion Trends”. Now, I’ve never been one to follow momentary trends, but this year is new. Bold accessories, gorgeous pastels, and the revival of 90’s fashion? This year I feel the difference.
Spring is the time for new beginnings. However, this year we’re going back three decades in time. We’re jumping right into the decade of halter tops, flared pants, and platform shoes. Look no further: here is your handy-dandy guide to upgrading your closet this season.
Halter tops are the epitome of lying down on a picnic blanket while reading your favorite Jane Austen book. There’s a reason that young women of different generations keep bringing halter necks back—they’re timeless. They’re casual, fresh, and effortlessly chic. Not to mention, they are incredibly easy to put together. To make your own, just pull up a tutorial on YouTube, cut up a stylish print in all the right places, and voila! Your very own halter top.
To pair with your new halter top, perhaps a quality pair of low rise jeans. Here’s the thing: no matter how much I try to deny it, low-rise is definitely making a come-back. When paired with the right cut top, low-rise jeans can be the ultimate look, making casual cute again!
If you’re not a fan of the low-rise, don’t fret. There are still an endless amount of combinations within your spring closet. To no one’s surprise, mini skirts have also found their way onto this list. Perfect for a warm April afternoon, the classic mini skirt is a staple throughout all seasons. Coming in different prints and cuts, the mini skirt can be paired with essentially any top.
In terms of accessories to enhance your outfit, you have an unlimited amount of options. For a “country-club-rich-aunt” look, maybe a headscarf with chunky sunglasses. If you want to go for an “indie-i-read-books” type of vibe, I highly recommend investing in a tote bag. Fashionable and useful.
This is just one idea for an outfit. Fashion is constantly evolving, and outfit combinations are endless. This spring, use that to your advantage. Be bolder, go outside of your comfort zone. Although, keep in mind one thing—your style reflects who you are. As Coco Chanel so eloquently put it, “La mode se démode, le style jamais.” For those of us that didn’t take French in highschool, this translates to “Fashion fades, style never does.” Nobody can tell you what to wear, not even this highly professional fifteen year old fashion connoisseur. Wear whatever makes you feel more like you.
