Jean-Michel Basquiat

Jean-Michel Basquiat was an American artist of Haitian and Puerto Rican descent who was famous for his graffiti and neo-expressionist paintings. At 21, Baswuiat became the youngest artist to ever take part in documenta in Kassel, and at 22 he became the youngest to exhibit at the Whitney Biennial in New York. Basquiat’s art represented topics such as wealth versus poverty, integration versus segregation, and inner versus outer experience. Even following his death at 28 due to a heroin overdose, Basquiat’s artwork is represented both nationally and internationally, carrying on his legacy.
