Josephine Baker
Josephine Baker was an African American performer, Word War II spy, and activist. She was one of the most successful African American performers in French history. Josephine Baker used her talent and platform to advocate for equality and human rights. She often refused to perform to segregated audiences, forcing club owners to integrate in order for her to perform. Her fight against discrimination was recognized by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Baker was not only fighting for equality in her professional life, but in her personal life as well. She adopted 13 children from different countries in order to prove that racial and cultural harmony was possible.
