Anxiety and apprehension settled over the school on the first Friday of May, as students voted for candidates and awaited the election results of student council’s new executive board.  In the final minutes of sixth block, the new officers were announced:  rising senior Ambika Nair as president; rising junior Kavya Pochiraju as vice president; rising senior Zeki Oduro as secretary; and rising senior Connor Munsch as treasurer.

Running for these positions (and winning) is no small accomplishment.  Executive board members are responsible for all schoolwide events, they fund raise, and they form the bridge between students and administration. “The focus of EBoard is the entire school, they’re representative of the entire school, not just their class,” said Carl Romero, one of the organization’s two advisors. “I think we have a strong group of kids.”

Many of the newly elected members are returning for their second year on executive board. This year, the organization accomplished many goals, such as providing more appetizing school lunches and hosting successful events like Homecoming and Mr. North.  The new executive board has already begun generating plans for the 2014-2015 school year.  “Four of our members have a year of EBoard experience already,” said junior executive board president Ambika Nair. “We’re very solidified as a team, and organizing event and projects will be exponentially more efficient this year.”

“I hope to work hard with the new council to continue getting the student body involved in making their school better” Nair added. “I am very confident this coming year will be one of the best school years yet.”
